Graffiti: Culture, Subculture, Nuisance.
For those who see graffiti in the urban landscape as nothing more than senseless vandalism, it’s hard to understand that this art form is also recognized and appreciated as a remarkable form of expression. Even polarizing groups use spray cans to make their mark, to bring their spiritual symbols to public attention or to mark their territories, often disregarding the fact that this constitutes damage to property, which can result in liability for compensation. The perspective of the property owner who has been affected is certainly different from that of a curious onlooker, who might embark on a photographic quest to find the “most beautiful graffiti” and wonder, “What is the artist trying to tell us?” For years, we have been offering artists—and those who aspire to be—an opportunity to express themselves on our Wall of Fame, where doing so is, of course, completely legal.
